THE ENDURING BANQUET

Directed by Emmi Hilger

What looks like a scandalous affair between two women becomes a warm, comedic view into long-term relationships and the true meaning of intimacy.  (Running time approximately 14 minutes)

What is Women's Theatre Alliance doing this year? The Bechdel Test...
It first appeared in a comic strip in 1985.  Now known as the Bechdel Test, the criteria for the plays included is as follows:

1.      There must be  two named female Characters…
2.      Who talk to each other…
3.      About anything other than a man.

Seems simple right? Then how come so much of our theatre can’t seem to pull this off today?

Women’s Theatre Alliance also added...
4.      No more than four characters are allowed in the  scene
5.      It must be done without  effects or fancy set.

The Mating Habits of Frogs  (Reading) - July 6, 2013-  AstonRep at The Den Theatre (Chicago)

Echo - The Athena Project Festival  - March 2013

Picture
A Chicago family believes they are witnessing a miracle: Their non-verbal autistic daughter (Abby) is “speaking” using a new communication method that requires a “facilitator” and letters on a keyboard.  But in a few keystrokes, the miracle becomes a nightmare when the messages she types include shocking accusations.

Check these two stories (both very different) below to learn more:

Carly's Story
Wendrow's Story

Both stories above show how complex autism is, how little we know about it, and how heart-breaking it can be for families who don't know whether to push further for their child or accept that their child will be different.

More on the Athena Festival...

Warped - Stage Left Theatre - LeapFest last year - Production September 2013

Picture
Directed by Jason Fleece

Two Chicago police officers give a ride home to a young, drunk twenty-something. Several hours later, the young woman emerges from her apartment screaming rape. Influenced by the film Rashomon, Warped presents the contradictory stories from each character’s perspective and asks the question: Is the truth constant, or is it as malleable as our own perceptions?
